Kaanoi

General characteristics: Medium in height, erect, maturing in 8 to 12 months, producing numerous runners but no oha; characterized by purplish-red petioles with reddish-lilac edges.

Petiole: 60 to 90 cm long, reddish-purple fading to reddish-lilac at base with a white ring, margins are reddish-lilac.

Leaf blade: 30 to 35 cm long, 20 to 25 cm wide, 20 to 25cm from tip to base of sinus, ovate, dark green with purplish tinge; piko small, purple; margins red, veins conspicuous, reddish on lower surface.

Corm: Chalky white flesh with purplish fibers; skin yellowish.

Origin, and derivation of name: Native variety; the derivation of name is currently unknown.

Distribution: This taro is not widely grown and is mainly cultivated upland. It can often be found growing wild.

Use: Mainly as table taro.
